The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city in Galilee

named Nazareth,  to a young woman named Mary.

She was engaged to marry a man named Joseph.

The angel said to her,  “The Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women.”

Mary was greatly troubled and wondered

what sort of greeting this might be.

The angel said to her, “Fear not Mary,

for you have found favor with God.

You will conceive and bear a son,

and you shall call his name Jesus.

Your cousin Elizabeth in her old age

has also conceived a son;

and this is her sixth month.

With God, nothing is impossible.”

And Mary said,

“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord;

let it be according to your word.”

                  The Annunciation

Mary hurried to the city of Judah

and went to the house of Zechariah.

She greeted Elizabeth.

When Elizabeth heard the greeting,

the babe leaped in her womb.

Mary stayed with her for three months

till the time came for Elizabeth’s baby to be born.

Elizabeth gave birth to a son and named him John.

The Visitation

A decree went out from Caesar Augustus

that everyone should be registered

in the city of their birth.  Joseph went

from Nazareth to the city of Bethlehem,

with Mary who was great with child.

While they were there,

the time came for her to deliver.

She gave birth to her son

and wrapped him in swaddling cloths,

and laid him in a manger,

because there was no place for them in the inn.

In the Manger

Shepherd and Son

In that same region there were shepherds in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

Come to Bethlehem

An angel appeared to them and said, “Be not afraid

for I bring you news of great joy.  A savior is born this day in the city of David.

You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.

The shepherds said, “Let us go to Bethlehem and see what has been made known to us.

 “Be not afraid.”

Wise men from the east came to Jerusalem saying, “Where is He that is born King of the Jews?

We have seen His star and have come to worship him.?

When they saw the young child with Mary,

they fell down and worship him

and presented him with treasures

of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Adoration of the Magi

After the Magi left,

 an angel came to Joseph

in a dream and said, “Get up

and take the child and his mother

and flee to Egypt and remain there.

Herod is about to search for the child and wants to destroy him.”

So Joseph rose and took the child

and his mother and left for Egypt.
